Working Creatively with Trauma
Psychodrama has been successfully used with groups and individuals who have experienced trauma for over 50 years.
It is a highly effective form of therapy as many of the symptoms of trauma are unconscious, non-verbal, right brained experiences, which are held in the body and cannot be accessed through talk therapy alone.
Psychodrama is an approach that places equal importance on the body and mind, and effectively integrates these processes. As a result, psychodrama can offer true integrative healing of core traumas, not just management of symptoms.
The creativity of psychodrama’s action methods offers a varied and flexible approach to this work, going beyond words, incorporating techniques such as ‘mirror’, working in miniature, and working with metaphor, all of which provide distance and safety.
Who is it for?
This workshop is for people who would like to expand their creativity, learn more about themselves, and experience the power (and fun) of psychodrama. It is suitable for counsellors, psychotherapists, arts and play therapists who would like to enliven their practice through psychodrama and creative action methods theory and practice. And for those who have some experience of working with individuals or groups in a way which enhances personal development or promotes learning, such as educators, health professionals, social workers, and community workers.
What can I expect?
1. Experiential learning within a supportive group environment.
2. Exploration around the safe application of the method, firstly for yourself and then in working with others.
