Using Creative Action Methods in supervision offers a person-centred approach with a difference, which can be both powerful and fun. It provides the opportunity to look at theory, practice and ethical issues in a visual and concrete way; to step into the shoes of our clients for deeper empathy and understanding of the therapeutic relationship; to gain some distance and perspective necessary for self-care; and to reflect, process and develop effectively at each stage of training and long into our practice as counsellors, psychotherapists or in other caring professions.
Emma Hagen
Emma completed her Certificate in creative supervision with Jenny Biancardi in 2013 and has been a UKCP registered supervisor since 2016. She is currently a UKCP and BPA registered training supervisor and supervises trainees from a range of psychotherapy training courses.
Emma has a rich and full supervision practice, offering 1:1 and group supervision, online via Zoom, and in person at both indoor and outdoor locations. Emma is particularly passionate about Walk and Talk supervision in nature. This is facilitated at agreed outdoor spaces including local parks, woodland and Lochside settings.
She has supervised therapists and trainees from a range of modalities including psychodrama, integrative, psychodynamic, and person centred approaches, as well as offering supervision to a variety of healthcare and 3rd sector workers who deal directly with trauma through their work. Creative group supervision has proved particularly effective in working with staff teams who are at risk of vicarious trauma and burnout.
Given her range of experience as a psychotherapist, supervisor and senior trainer, Emma understands from various roles, the personal and professional challenges faced by psychotherapists and trainees, as well as the benefits and joy that comes with being part of this profession. As such she is keen to offer a relationship and creative space, where supervisees can bring all of themselves, go beyond words in expression of their experience, and develop their confidence, competence and creativity.
If you, or your staff team, would like the opportunity to be supported in your work through a creative supervision approach Emma would be delighted to hear from you.
